We are in Windhoek the capital of Namibia. I must mention I am going to use the proper race terms for Africa which is black and white and colored if you are mixed. It is hard to get use to such descriptions of people’s race but since I do not know all their specific ethnicity, I will use them. During this adventure we have seen so many small and larger towns of Namibia. The smaller towns usually consist of a gas station, supermarket, bakery and meat shop and most the people are black. The larger towns have all the same as smaller towns but also fancy shopping stores for clothes, furniture, etc. Namibia has more blacks working in higher status jobs than South Africa and actually here in Windhoek black is the majority, all of this was different from South Africa that had many whites. Namibia is almost as modern as South Africa. Most of the camp grounds and hostels have been very clean with all kinds of modern services such as kitchens, showers, and internet. Even the water has been filtered and has been safe to drink. I think that will begin to change as I go north and East through Africa.
The Chameleon guest house was a great backpackers waypoint on the trip North. It had a nice pool and was relatively busy with travelers. The rooms were great and the staff was super friendly. Windhoek itself is worth a day but there was not too much to do, you get the feeling though that it will be the last 'modern' city we will see in quite a while.
