The South Luanga valley feels like a remote jewel among the mopane clad hills. The river is a slow life giving force that has carved out a great fertile valley. I camped right along the river in flatdogs camp. The place is amazing. They have platforms up in trees to camp on, at night the whole place fills with hippos, elephants and whatever else wanders by. You can really see these animals from your platform and you'd be crazy to go down in the middle of the night. The park itself is fantastic with a nice network of roads and the opportunity for walking safaris which i love. Its great to get up and close with nature and see things from a different perspective. The guides are experts on the local flora and fauna, and you get to see many birds and when you see the larger animals from foot, it is a lot more exciting. The trees to me are particularly fascinating, ebony, sausage, mopane, balsa, baobab, and many other exotic varieties. On an evening game drive, I saw my first leopard, larger than I thought it would be and a more powerful shoulder set than I had imagined. An incredible and lucky site which completes my big five.
