Zambia and Malawi do not have very many communication networks, I have only found two towns with internet and my cell phone has does not worked hardly at all in Zambia and Malawi. We have traveled south east across Zambia from Livingstone to Lusaka to Chipata. We crossed the border to Malawi and traveled from the capital, Lilongwe, across to the lake coast around Senga bay and then north along the Malawi lake. the lake is 500km along Malawi’s eastern border and Mozambique is on the other side of the lake.
We are taking a slower pace with less animal viewing and more interactions with local people. We stayed in one village for three days and I got to form friendships with the locals. Each day I would walk to the market and play a game called BOA. It was a lot of fun getting to visit with the locals. The Malawians may be the nicest people in the world. The children will come running up to you and start holding your hands, at any one point you may have five children in each hand. Of course the poverty is heart breaking. Once you form a friendship with these people and then meet their child and see that their child has a bloated stomach due to malnutrition. It is sad but they are so happy and nice so at the same time you get a wonderful glow in your heart from being in their presence.
