Hello everyone,
We haven't posted in awhile so this may be a long one (go get a cup of
coffee or whatever) so be prepared for the latest from Jen and Sarah........
We last left off leaving Budapest for Vienna where we would spend a hectic
5 hours eating ice cream, finding the main square, many tourists sights, and
then a cup of coffee at the famous Demel coffee house just in time to avoid
being caught in a major thunderstorm. Arrived at our pension in Ceske
Budejovice at 9:30pm to a very small room for three people - but the
breakfasts were great. We even got yogurt one day! (It really is the
little things when you travel sometimes). For those of you who don't know,
this is the town where the original Budweiser beer is made (according to
Jen, the beer is so much better than the US version!!).
A one hour bus ride from our hotel in Ceske Budejovice was Ceske Krumlov. Ceske Krumlov is a really cute, medieval town with many winding streets and bridges as there was a river going around the
whole town and castle. Many of the buildings had unique painted frescoes
and of course the pastel colored houses. Dog lovers! for your information
Ceske Krumlov is the place to go with your furry friend. We saw every
variety of dog and strangely enough very few dog fights (they were all on
their best behavior). One dog did get a little snippy with a large brown
bear but we'll chalk that up to pure fear. Yes, there were bears at the entrance to the castle, odd zoo like accessory. Don't worry we found lots of stairs to climb even in this small town - in a tower with a nice 360 view of the town, up to the castle and up the hill on the other side of town where
we originally thought the castle was.
Take Care,
Jen, Sarah and Mark
