Mark left us (Sarah and Jen) at Ceske Budejovice to visit Krakow, Poland while we
continued on to Prague. We hiked all around the city of Prague but in the main areas
found the crowds of tourists to be overwhelming. We saw Prague castle,
sights on Petrin hill, Tyn church, the Town Hall clock, the Jewish quarter.
The most unique tourist sight was a museum on the top of Petrin hill where
the artist painted and produced artwork under a microscope, so everything
was in miniature. We had to use magnifying glasses or microscopes to see
the reproductions of Rembrandt, Dali, and Picasso as well as many original
pieces of small metal work placed on insects or sesame seeds (ie little
tiny, metal safari animals on the leg of an insect). Hard to describe but
amazing to see. These sights were all beautiful but we enjoyed our walks far
away from the city center the most, such as to see Vysehrad palace (one day
7miles) and Petrin and Castle hill (the next day 11.5miles). Prague is
over-all a more expensive city than either of us expected. We spent about 1
1/2 hours trying to find an acceptably priced dinner and ended up with pizza
for $16. What a bargain! Apparently, this town knows how to party - again,
more than we expected. Our hostel windows open on the main street and we
can hear when everyone leaves the bars drunk at 2am, 4am and 6am. My
favorite is one group whose favorite bar apparently closes around 4am
because they have been outside our window 2 nights in a row singing rugby
songs - loudly!!
We've had a great time and now are sad to go our separate ways - Jen to
Geneva to see cousins and Sarah and Mark to India to meet up with Kelli and
Joe. Bye for now!!!
